Hand Auger Question
#8
Nils make a 6" and an 8". I wanted to buy a Nils, but could not justify the price. I ended up buying an 8" Eskimo Barracuda at Sportsman's. I have used it a few times now. 12" of ice takes me about 1 min. I am very impressed with the speed of which it cuts. It cuts nice smooth, straight holes. I can drill 2-3 holes before my arms want to give out. Once I drill a few more and get my arms in a little better shape, things should be easier. I have learned to space the drilling out. I drill one or two holes, then get the rods ready. Drill another hole or two and then get the shelter ready. Drill another hole, do something else. Hand augers are fine if you know where the fish are and only have to drill the one set of holes. If you need to drill holes looking for fish, a power auger is the way to go.
