You can certainly do that. If you have any concept of tapers. Why don't they make more rods with interchangeable tips? I know they have in the past, but don't anymore
They take a mandrel and roll a blank from butt to tip. You take the tip section and it is half the designed rod.
But you can do it.
You do what you say and you think this metal rod is stiff, at least it has a spring to flex.
