Indian Creek is another popular spot, but the ice on Pali
es can be very interesting any time of the year since the levels go up during the winter (typically). The edges are usually very thin. It can be 1'-2' thick in the center and only 1"-3" on the edges. If the water level is going down, which does not seem to be the case this year, then you get big broken chunks laying on the shore and a lot of cracks. It is always the last one to freeze around this area because of the depth. By the dam is usally another good spot and so is Big Elk as was mentioned. Best thing to do is look for other people and usually you need a board to get onto the safe ice.
