There are many ways to rig your nymphs, such as (going from the rod to the end of the tippet):
1)single Nymph
2)splitshot/nymph
3)splitshot/nymph/nymph
4)nymph/splitshot/nymph
5)nymph/nymph/splitshot
The nymphs can be attached inline (eye to bend to eye), with tags hanging out to the side or both (one fly on a tag, a second on the end to the eye).
I generally fish #3 the most and tie it inline since it's the fastest way for me to re-tie after a snag and I lose one or both nymphs. I use an indicator unless I'm fishing deep or very fast water.
When I fish with tags, I tie a surgeons knot and leave some extra hanging out for the fly. If I'm lucky enough to keep the rig after I've changed flies a few times and there is no more tag, I attach a new piece with a perfection loop.
