[cool][#0000ff]The reel on the "high end" outfit I snagged at Willard was a regular spincast reel...mounted on top of the rod like a baitcast reel and fished the same way...with a thumb pushbutton. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The underspin reels hang below the rods, like spinning reels, and instead of a pushbutton they have the trigger mechanism that acts like holding the line with your finger when spin fishing. By the way, there are a lot of crappie fans that put these reels on a fly rod during crappie season to get the extra length for dipsticking into the brush and stickups. Lots of fun to play with slab crappies on a fly rod fitted with one of those reels.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff][#000000]"Question for you TD....Now given you use the reel like in your last post (and the ones Berkley sales) wouldn't smaller guides be a benefit?
And out of curiosity, how many guides are there on this 10'er. "[/#000000]

[#0000ff]Yes, the smaller guides work fine when the underspin reels are used...with direct line feed instead of spiral loops off a spinning reel. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Coincidentally, I have 10 foot crappie rod in my tackletorium room...brought in for repairs. I went in and counted the guides. Two large "stripping" guides on the lower 5 foot section and TEN small guides and a tip top on the top 5 foot section. Guide-wise it is built like a long flyrod. And it needs more guides because of the soft action. Too few guides and you will get "flat spots" or broken tips from improper flexing.[/#0000ff]
