skammys are truly a wild and crazy fish, like said they quite literally fight to the death. no hybrid just pure craziness in a torpedo shaped chrome body. this year i was lucky enough to be in all the right places at the right times and caught steel all year round. but nothing can even compare to how ridiculously hard those skamanias fought. they spend more time in the air than in the water half the time and the other half is spent death rolling, twisting, and head shaking. ive heard now that there stopping the stocking of them due to vhs. [frown] as for 20+lb steel there not all that uncommon atleast in the great lakes, its the whole landing them thats the problem atleast for me. i had one completely destroy a reel on the first ential run while ice fishing last year. most of the huge steelies are taken by charters though, but there always seems to be a few piggies that run up the river every year. heres a couple skammys from this summer. the one collin(little kid) is holding is of the 15lb class. bad picture of it though [unimpressed]
