I think on C&R waters there is no need for them at all. Now if it is food for the table, then they are a great advantage.
Personally, I never understood the thought behind a cluster of hooks, other than they held cheese or power bait better, so, what would one need them for on C&R waters.
They do damage to Trout and I am betting to other species too. That being said, fishing IS a blood sport, no two ways about it.
That IS the bad thing about Trebles. Great when you hook into a KEEPER, but 8 times out of 10, you don't...you hook some little guy trying his best to become that trophy and you have just shortened or ended his journey.
