I agree with lurch and FG. Put it on the net end.
I have the bungee cord and the the magnetic catch both attached to a "D" ring on the back collar of my vest.
The picture you posted of the one you got shows an allegator clip type of attachment for the coiled retention cord. cut the clip off and put on something that can not be pulled off your clothing or belt or vest. Otherwise when you are bush wacking through the brush and trees and the net or the cord gets caught on a branch the whole thing will be pulled off and you will not even know it. There is willow tree on the East River in Colorado that claimed my first net many years ago. Never did find that willow tree again. But then there were thousands of willow trees along that part of the East River.
