I tried them both and its a toss up for me. Vanish seems to be more brittle and prone to breaking. The 100% Fluoro in the gold package seems really wiry and stiff to me but its definitely stronger than the Vanish. Any 100% fluorocarbon line will be invisible under water.
Try Seaguar Invis-X. Its around the same price as the Trilene 100% Fluoro (gold pack), maybe cheaper. I use it on baitcasters, spinning reels... no complaints. It is a little stiffer than regular mono, but overall it handles well and 8# test is hard to break even when you're stuck on a rock or log and trying to break it off.
