I found my way down to bass pro today to attend the free begginer flyfishing class....
there was 6 in the class, from 8 - 68
a couple of us it was a refersher couse the rest was first time.
at the end of the hour and a half class every one there was able to handle a fly rod and get the line out, no it wasnt what you would expect to see in a flyfishing vidio, but they could to a roll cast, false cast, and shoot the line. Only one knot was shown, it was the nail knot,, and to be honest it is one I havent done in 20 years.
even for me it was a great class to attend, mostly because I could stand there and watch the mistakes the others made and it helped me to see where I had hit over head trees and tied my tippet line in a knot...
by the way, tippet line knot is the number one reason a fish will break your line.... I have heard them refered to as wind knots. "some one correct me if I am wrong"
Wind knots happen when you are casting with winds and your tippet makes a square knot while in flight because the hook dose not travel the whole path of the fly line and drops in to the loop so that when you finish your cast the knot has formed..
so rememeber
nail knots good...
wind knots not so good....
