If your fishing behind a stocking, use a lite leader line of no more than 6 pounds. 4 pounds is better.
freshly stocked like yellow cotton ball on a single hook or a niblet or two of cheep whole kernel corn.
remember, the cheep corn works best, stay away from name brands, they dont seem to care for that to much.
number six hooks, octopus will do you well.
if those trout are under 3 pounds you may want to even try two pound test... but I am sure if you have a quality sporting goods store near you, you can find three pound test leader line.
You want to go with as light a line as posible. the trout can feal those heavy lines and when they do they let go fast....
I wouldnt fill a spool with it, just make your self a 4 foot leader so you can retie hooks as needed.
be sure to add a barrol swivel between the two lines.
use either trylene or polimer knots....
