No matter what you say about them (conservationists), they probably say the same exact thing about us, and to a large extent they are right. I have read most if not all the posts on this thread and many are riddled with name calling and close minded statements that are coming from the hunters side of things. The post I'm replying to could qualify.
Now I'm not saying that they are right. I'm just pointing out something that I've noticed and if I were on the side of wanting to protect wolves I could easily pick apart sections of these posts and have fuel showing how "Mentally challenged" we are and how we "have tunnel vision". Despite what has been said these people are not uneducated, although naive or unaware in some aspects, could be easily used.
As for my thoughts on the hunt being stopped, it's possible. But I think that eventually, whether it's this year, next or 5 years from now, a full legal season will occur for wolves in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming and eventually other states. My thoughts on this are because as the wolf population increases run ins are going to increase as those of us living here already have witnessed. This will ultimately put pressure on the political machine and things will come around. The one thing I see screwing it up is if people do kill hundreds of wolves as suggested and don't report it leaving a big question as to why the population is dropping when it shouldn't. That would then give them cause to require another 10 year study that will put us that much further back in the progress we've made.
Wolves were originally here long before us, whether it's grey, timber or were is unimportant. They are here again and we should accept they will not be allowed to be exterminated. Let's use them responsibly as a resource and have the states involved make some money off them by selling tags, hunts and the such. If they are listed as a game animal then that gives us the power to protect our properties from damage that we witness (which for the most part we have not been allowed until recently) and to control the population in a reasonable manner. I do believe the majority of people in these states are moderate enough to realize this and want this kind of resolution. That way we could all win.
