i too would like to see the numbers of the indians quotas posted but truthfuly i dont think they know. i think there are still sockeye going into the hatcherys up in stanley but they only got 650 sockeye last year 432 at redfish 218 at sawtooth hatchery. they are now up to 665 this year 487 at redfish and 178 at the hatchery.
they are also going to release 450 hatchery raised adult sockeye into redfish to spawn natrauly as well as most of those trapped. i talked to a f&g biologist from the Eagle fish hatchery and he said that they are raising adult sockeye in fresh water runs and using there eggs to keep the program running i asked him if they were going to begin a hatchery for the sockeye (which i thought i had heard last year) he said they will probly keep around 60 of the fish that return this year. they will keep the most geneticly diffrent fish and spawn them to replentish there runs and the rest of the fish that return will be released into red fish. As they did last year.
I cant help but think what would return in 3 years if they could rear all the eggs from the fish that are currently returning. but none the less there program is working and hopefuly continues to. As for the fish that dont make it to redfish or the hatchery i to would like to know what happened to the almost 300 sockeye that didnt make it. but remember lower granite is only half way, still alot of river to go and in my mind the harder half. I think some get lost did you know they had 1 sockeye show up at the east fork hatchery. lol he was a bit lost.
