My adult children and I were planning day at Mirror Lake. My Pac 80. My daughter in a my second Pac 80 with new Disdovery 8 toons and my son in what call his "Lead Canoe" Im not kidding this thing is heavy almuinimun and is 15 feet long. I was rigging a new rod holder on my Outcast Pac 80 and was using some very large and strong Tie Straps. I got talking to a neighbor was not looking at what my son was doing, bless his heart. He thought he was helping me, got out a box cutter to cut of the excess ends of the tie strap.
Yep you guessed it. 3" slice into the left toon cover and urathane bladder. The first thing that came to mind was I hope the "OH SHIT" I heard was not becaue he was hurt. Then I just stood there and watched the toon deflate quite rapidly. Then my thought was oh how bad must the feel. I know when I have done things like that how bad I feel. You call tell them is ok and we can get it fixed a million times but the sick feeling he has will last a while im sure.
I know I have a repair kit but its been years since I used this boat and have no idea where it is.
I am in unfamiliar territory here. My questions are these. Is a 3" slice too big to patch? Is it less likeley to be a successful repair than say a hole or puncture? Is the toon still going to be safe to use when repaired? Do I need a some specifically made for polyurathane? Can I it here locally in Utah. And how do I patch the outer cover so it does not come apart?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
