Interesting white trout, goddess. We get a few albino trout I see around here on the river ever so often, probably from stocking. They don't last long enough to be caught by fishermen, flying predators pick them up quickly.
There are various gadgets used to save rods falling overboard. The foam type are most reliable, but may affect the action of some rods depending on where you mount them. There are also much smaller minature chemical balloon types (alkaseltzer) that activate when rod remains completely submerged for a couple of minutes. I have used both and they work. You must test to see if they will hold the weight of your gear. The chemical type produces a longish fluorescent balloon with a string that pays out. If the water is really deep, you can usually see the balloon below the surface if the gear is too heavy to float. Then run a snagging gear to retrieve.
