The problem with Vaseline would likely be that when the temperature dips it becomes very stiff and may render the pump unusable in cold weather. [cool]
I remember a guy who lubed his reels with Vaseline and later that fall wondered why his spinning reels would no longer easily spin. D'oh![pirate]
