I usually wear mine, since i got to have one with me anyhow.
it is comfortable and has large pockets that come in handy.
I am a strong swimmer and can easilly swim across most of the lakes I am on, but I keep my fishcat open in front, so there is the remote possibility I could be reaching for a fish or something and slip into the water. going under in cold water can cause a gasp reflex that can start the drowning process instantly before you even think to start swimming. a PFD eliminates that problem.
You DO have a very good point with the cold water .
It only takes couple of seconds in cold water to be in big
trouble.
