I'm sure that is what it is. If there wasn't an option the lightweight would be fine. My previous tubes never had the PVC bottom. BUT, having the option, I really prefer the security of the extra-durable bottom.
If you hike with your tube far/often the lightweight is a good idea. But where I fish, I often brush the tips of submerged trees unexpectedly, I worry that one day there will be a lure stuck in one.
I like my PVC bottom.
