You can fish right at the University if you want. The record German Brown was caught there a couple years ago. They are stocking salmon tomorrow on the Boise at Glenwood and at Barber Park. There are some good holes between Star and Barber PArk. The whole river throughout Boise has fish. There are also a bunch of ponds all around the valley that are stocked regularlly if you are into that. Lucky Peak is only about 10 miles or so out of town.
The best fishing from what ive heard is fly fishing. I have never tried it myself but I am going to soon. It opens an array of opportunities as some of the best fishing around is fly fishing only or baitless barbless hooks and whatnot.
I use Turners on state street just west of Veterans Parkway. He is the only mom and pop type store plus he has everything you will need plus some. And he always knows where the bite is.
The bigger stores are no where near water is probably the main reason I don't go often plus there is so much stuff to choose from I just freeze up after overload and it ends up being a wasted trip...lol
