There were some real big waves going on. I was going to take my boat out, but I called my buddy that lives down that way and he said the wind was blowing pretty good.
People take way too many chances on Utah Lake. That boat had six guys in it. I'll bet anything that the boat was rated for about 700 pounds with motor, gear and people. It's one thing to overload a boat and go out on a deep protected lake. It's a whole different game when you go out on a big shallow open lake. Those waves can go from flat to four feet in a matter of minutes.
I've had about four real scary trips on Utah Lake. When the waves got big before I could get off.Once with a buddy in a tri-hull, and three times in my boat. My boat has a lot of battle wounds from encounters down there. I had my motor hit bottom once in eight feet, when I came down a wave into the trough. Very concerning to say the least.
