If 5 dollars prevents you from taking kids fishing, then my guess is the actual desire to take kids out fishing really isn't there. My guess is you aren't the sole grown up mentoring these kids. My guess is we also aren't talking about a group of 50 or so kids, if I'm wrong, please correct me.
Let's say there are 25 scouts in your pack or what have you (was never a scout) 25*5=125 dollars. Ok, so this might be a bit of a burden for one guy to bear, but like I said. I don't imagine you're the only adult chaperon. Take 2 adults, 62.50 each. Maybe a little expensive, but if I have 40,000 dollars in student loans and could flip that to take kids fishing, my guess is two of you could too. But really, you shouldn't have to flip for any of it.
My guess is the scouts could host some sort of sale (bake sale, whatever else scouts sell) and raise 5 dollars a piece.
The main point here shouldn't be about cost, it should be about getting kids out fishing. When you look at all the costs of doing other activities as opposed to going out fishing, the cost per unit of entertainment is ridiculously cheap at $5 for 365 days.
I'm sorry that I don't sugar coat things for you, there is too much of that in today's world. Get your kids out there, make them earn 5 bucks, go online or to a DWR office and but the licenses, it really isn't that hard, you got yours somehow didn't you?
I'm a big brother to a kid who is less fortunate, through the big brothers, big sisters program. I gladly purchased my little a fishing license, and if it really is THAT difficult for your troop to scrounge up 5 dollars for license then PLEASE PM me and I'll write a check for 5, 10, hell maybe even 20 dollars, that sends 4 kids out fishing. If you did the same thats another 4, we're up to 8 now! This whole thread just has me shaking my head.
