we use the spey rods mainly for bobbers and running some of the very clear watter streams in the winter..we use ceterpin reels and acctually cast the bobbers with mono..and lite droppers 4 to 6 pound test....we also will run shooting line with shooting heads and lite dropper for some of the clearer streams ..we can back of the runs 20 to 30 feet with long droppers..and reach the runs...the tough fishing is done with regular fly reels filled with heavy mono.and usualy about an 8 to 9 weight fly rod 9.6 is the prefered length..gotto have good feel..alot of graphite content..were strait lineing it..heres a pic off the spey rod/centerpin combo we would use for bobbers...+1 fish..the key to handling big fish is controling the head..they cant get going if you keep turning there head....
