I use a #2 baitholder hook . First I put on a marshmallow then the nightcrawler and tip it with a kernel of Corn . If the ice goes of real close to opening day the fish will be in real shallow . They slayed them over by county boat dock last year on opening weekend . Hope this helps Curt G.
