Well I suggest if you haven’t hooked and landed a king (from the bank in a river) with spinning gear or anything other than a fly rod. You should concentrate on standard gear first. I say this because you will be seriously surprised when you hit one. The only thing I can compare it to is sturgeon...Ya sounds absurd but wait til you hook one of those tigers in the fast running water. They know how to use the current to their advantage and even have a way to even make fools out of all us old time fisherman. If you have ever Drift fished the kings, it’s a heck of a lot easier to land one from a boat. The bank you need some room and cooperation of other fisherman, so be nice and make friends on the bank where you fish[

You can use a fly rod like "got bait" observed but if you do you will need even more room on the river, more cooperation and patience from other fisherman around you. I would suggest landing a few kings in a river w/ standard gear first, then give it a go with the fly rod. Good luck and I hope to see some of you guys on the river.
