salmon rod
#2
I know every river is different but also every fisherman is different! I've never fished Idaho's kings...but I've caught hundreds of kings on 8'6" med-heavy...and even smaller rods, including a 42lb king on a 9' 5wt flyrod. You have people who will use 10ft mag heavy rods and have a little more fighting power, but just handle the fish to the best of your ability and you should get them in no problem. Im excited to give Idaho Kings a go this year...can't wait actually!!! As far as the line i've used 25 and 40 lb maxima for kings and really like to use lighter lines as long as I can get away with it!
