I agree and I'm no scientist but in my experience while living in AK the jacks usually come first. They are younger, more aggressive and answering the call of the wild...[

There are adults with them of course but we always had a push of jacks in the first part of the run. Also the Chum salmon would be plentiful in the begining of the run. My "prediction" is that the load of jacks we are seeing is the onset of a massive return this yr of adults. Wishful thinking? maybe, but I have alot of salmon fishing experience, not salmon counting.
Another thing I noticed that may or may not prove my theory is that some of the biggest salmon I cought were later in the run. This is not AK but they are chinook salmon none the less[
