If your fishing any type of cover, you'll most likely get schooled by a big bass with 4lb test. Big bass love to wrap you up in and type of cover they can find. At that point you have two choices, let him take you into the cover and go in after him, been there done that, not my choice. I prefer to turn the fish and keep him out of the cover. This is where line strength come to the test. A big bass will break you every time if your line is weak and you try to turn him.
Now in open water you can catch most fish on any lb. test.
