Most waters that have a Fly Fishing only designation have that for fish quality reasons, not social reasons.
Fly Fishing has a much lower fish mortality rate than hardware or bait fishing. Traditionally Fly Fisherman are much more open to conservation and catch and release techniques etc...
It is a lot easier to safely release a trout hooked in the snout with a size 18 BWO than it is to release a trout that has swallowed a night crawler on a big eagle claw hook.
Fly Fishing started as a sport for the aristocracy of england. For better or worse I think it will always have a degree of elitism associated with it. But really, who cares? It is a hell of a lot of fun and a great way to spend some quality time outdoors. If that makes me a snob in other peoples eyes than so be it.
that being said I think the two groups of fisherman have a lot they could learn from each other.
