Sure thing. Steelienuts' comments pretty much had it pegged I would say as well. It was 2003 when we had alot of big fish. I can't speak for the average size of the fish that were in the run that year, but I think I can pretty much speak for the average size of the fish that were landed. . . and it wasn't quite 20 pounds, and anything over 26 would be very extremely rare. That year I saw a handful of 20+'s, and I have witnessed one over the years that I know was 30 or better. That year I figured I hooked 100 salmon and landed 7 or 8. Most of the people I fish with pretty much agree that Riggins fish over 15-16 pounds (5 year old or 3 ocean fish) are nearly impossible to land, especially on the Little Salmon. They are literally like hooking on to a car going down the highway. But for size, most all fish are 11-12 pounds. I have caught hundreds and my biggest is 19 pounds. I have had on many that I know were over 20 but I just can't get em in. Maybe I would have better luck if I fished some slow lame-o holes.
As far as what to use. . .I can't really stand to be fishing without a nice big ball of salmon eggs on, until the water gets warm, clear, and low and the fish are finicky. Then I just use a piece of yarn. Some of my buddies only use yarn all year long and do fine.
