If you want to have fun with big fish I've got a couple of suggestions. 1). A guided muskie trip on Lake St. Clair. This water was in my back yard back in MI and it produces more big muskies and has a higher catch rate than any other water out there. The flight to MI right now costs $258, an out of state license is about $40. Plus motel and rental car which will keep you WELL under $500.
2). A cast/arrow combo. Hunt MI whitetails from close to a campgound along the Pere Marquette River during the fall chinook season. The fish get up to 25lbs and you can arrow a whitetail too. The out of state hunt/fish license will be about $140 total, plus rental car, and camping fees. If you're serious, I will let you know a great place to hunt/camp. I've done it before and its great fun and can be done for about $600-$700 which INCLUDES hauling venison/fish back in a cooler!
