Yes the Boise River really is a gem. If it had some different regulations it could be a really incredible fishery. It is where I grew up fly fishing so I really love it a lot. It is always full of surprises.
As far as the whitefish go, I love catching them. They are most definitely not a trash fish. I had quite a few of them jumping clear out of the water. They are just so darn squiggly that it gets hard to take a picture of them because they never hold still. I didn't catch any big ones this time but I have pulled out some monster whities in the past. Whitefish can make a slow day into a really fast action day. They are usually fairly easy to find and are very willing to take a fly. I have caught some real nice suckers out of the Boise too. I love catching anything that puts up a good fight regardless of what they look like. Post away
