I fish with a 7 weight rod with a large arbor reel. If you're planning on nymphing, I use floating line and 10# maxima for tippet. I've tried other lines and have lost A LOT of fish, but not with maxima! As for flies, go small, black, black/purple, purple, dark brown, green butted skunk, and glow bugs or just a small piece of yarn. If they open the river for salmon this year again, I would go 8-9 weight and at least 15# maxima, and don't be surprised to get spooled! That means take an extra spool of line.[
