To try and increase my odds, but not get bored, I will get a 2 pole permit. Rig one with the traditional bobber/worm set up and just fling it out and set it in the rod holder. My other set up is usually a spoon or spinner. I found last fall that very erratic retrieves helped a lot. Even pauses up to 2 seconds or more often brought strikes.
Another good thing to keep in mind, if the weather looks like it could possible go bad, even slightly, put your life jacket on and head close to shore. Weather comes up fast and nasty up there. With Sawtel mountain you often don't see a front until it hits you. I spent my whole day last fall about 100 yds or less from shore and still caught plenty of fish. [
