In my book this person is on the top of the my most famous list. The encounter took place at my Elks Lodge on a night that we were honoring our wounded warriors from the Long Beach Naval Hospital. Arriving at the lodge a little early my wife and I stopped by the lodge's bar for a drink. As we sat down in the booth my eyes caught that of the gentleman sitting in the next booth. I immediately went over to pay my respects to none other than Audie Murphy. What a gracious man - while small in statue he was & I believe the most decorated hero of WWII. I also said hi to Lee Meriwether you was seated with him. BTW she was the Cat Woman in the Batman series back in the 60's. Mr. Murphy paid his respects to the veterans and then departed. Believe that if he attended the evenings function he would have no doubt stolen the lime light from the honorees of the evening. I don't have many but Mr Murphy is one of my hero's.[/#008000]
