Daniels 23 tickets so far
#39
There are no rules for a live well, that was kinda my point. I keep my fish in mine when ever I have the boat out. From what I have seen of the fish in my live well is that they do quite well. Last year at Henry's I had between 6-8 3lb+ trout in there, and they were in fine shape. Once you close the lid and they are in the dark, they calm right down. The water in mine recirculates all the time so it is basically like they are in the lake, just confined a little. The worst thing I think about the live well is trying to catch them when you get to shore. They are very lively and hard to deal with. After seeing how well they do in mine even 6 hours later, I would not have a problem releasing them.

There is no way I would try to release a fish that has been on a stringer for 6 hours. It causes to much damage to their gills.

I do think trout are stronger than people give them credit for. Think about how F@G stock fish. Scoop them up, place them in a tank on a truck, drive them a hundred miles or so confined with thousands of other fish while the temp rises the whole time, and then back up to the lake or river and flush them out a pipe. They seem to survive that quite well.
