How to setup cane pole?

What I have is actually a telescoping pole (2.7 meters). I'm not sure what it's officially called but it would be fished the same as a cane pole. It has a solid quiver tip and on the butt it has a small O-ring. There's no where to attach the line and all of the pieces are completely smooth.
