I still fish with a 2000 size Stradic that was manufactured in 1983. It is a fine reel and the size was fine for up to six pound line. The 2500 fishes up to ten pound very nice. The big difference is spool size. The 2500 has quite a bit bigger spool. If you can any way pull it off try to step up to the Stradic or equivalent quality reel. These reels are way better for only half again more dollars. I would recommend spending more money on fewer reels and not waste money on stuff you will never use or won't serve your purpose. 'Consult the experts before making an important decision' has been one of the most important things I've ever learned. You may be wise beyond your years.
Check out the reel on the bottom picture . I drilled it out for my dad for Christmas. I borrowed it from him for cast off the dock and nailed this bass on six pound, right off the boat dock. That's a Stradic 2000 right there, as is the one on the top pic. I drilled out my Diawa 2500 and Shimano 2000 with the same large hole pattern so they would look similar for a tourny. Anything to get an edge I guess.. The 2500 Stradic and the 2500 Diawa Emblem are exactly the same size and weight.
