My favorite bait is using fresh beef blood. Go to a local butcher and ask him to fill up a 2 gal bucket, put on ice and when it coagulates, cut into cubes and gently push a treble hook through it, the water is cool enought to keep it firm...best if fishing from a boat, but perfect for jug lines and trot lines!
