Jan and Feb Fly Fishing
#5
Ya we were ice fishing on the river. We went back into one of the small side channels that was frozen over but still connected to the river, so the fish were swimming in and out. I am sure there are a few of them but we only went to this one spot for a couple of hours. I have only been up the river road twice, so I couldn't tell you where it is. Sorry. I do know that the kid that showed it to me wanted it to be kept a secret though because one of his friends showed it to him. With that said, I am sure you could find a few frozen spots in other side channels. The funniest part is that the water below us was only 3.5 to 5 ft deep. Between all of us we caught between 25-30. Most were between 10"-12". Nothing huge, but good solid action and a lot of fun. We caught pretty much everything- Cutts, Bows, Hybrids, and a few browns. With the way the ice was looking, my guess is that it will probably be gone within the next couple of weeks. The ice was still plenty thick though, a good 7" i would say. I am going to try and fish the ice over by Lorenzo and see if I can do any good there. Ice fishing and fly fishing within twenty feet of the same spot is an aweome thing to do. I hope that can help a little bit. Oh and I was just using a little needlefish spoon tipped with a meal worm. seemed to work really well.
