I have had a lot of stars line up for me this winter and i've managed to hook atleast 4 tigers...successfully icing 2 of them! The first one I was targeting perch with 2lb line and an ultralight rod. It was a long hard fight but I finally got him through.
The second one was a little "better planned". I was fishing 2 rods...one for perch the other for musky. I was about 4 ft off the bottom..marked the fish and whammy! This time I had a 32" medium rod with 6lb line!
My first guy was about 36-37" and the second about 35".
Ended up with 6 through the ice this year...woo hoo what a great time!
