Ice Fishing??
#3
Ririe just froze so there may or may not be old holes around. In cold weather the old holes freeze over fast so you need a chipper bar to break the ice out. If you go on a Sat. there will probably be old holes around. to use. The thing is the popular spots are not necessarily the best spots.

Your regular rods will work for ice fishing, but you need some type of strike indicator like a spring bobber because the winter bite is much lighter than during the summer.

It depends what type of fish you are after. For Kokes I would use small pink jigs like a pink swedish pimple. For perch I use a swedish pimple to get it to the bottom with a very small ice fly for a dropper like a ratfinkie. For trout I use paddle bugs in white, pink, chartruse.

I think I would go out on a Sat. when there are a lot of people out there fishing and just observe what they are doing and ask questions. Most people are willing to help and teach new ice fishers.

Towards the end of the ice season you can usually pick up a hand auger really cheap.
