I took a couple 1 foot pieces of about 1/4" X 1 1/2" wood, drilled a 1/4" hole 1" in from each end & put a 1 1/2" carriage bolt through both ends of one of them. Put them together with the camera cable between them and clamp them lightly together with wing nuts. You can then put the thing across the hole, fine tune your depth and simply turn it to orient your camera to point where you want it. Just don't clamp the contraption too tight on the cable. Dunno how much abuse the cable will take like that. It takes very little squeeze to hold it. Don't think I've got more than a buck invested in it & it works for me.
