What is the best way to setup the aqua-vu for ice fishing?

I have an aqua-vu scout and I seem to leave it at home more than not. I end up messing around with it more than fishing when I take it, its hard to keep camera on your bait and at right depth.

anyone have any suggestions? Is the tripod worth buying?
