I haven't shore fished there since I bought my boat a couple of years ago. However, I used to shore fish the 'berry a lot.
The places I usually fished were Chicken Creek West and the ledge just South of the Ladders. The best luck I had in either place was with slipping a LARGE egg sinker on, then tying on a swivel (to hold the sinker). Add 18-24" of leader below the sinker, then the hook with your bait. I usually used powerbait and the most frequent bites were on rainbow glitter powerbait.
The reason for the large sinker was to allow you to cast out to the deeper water, and past the sagebrush line at Chicken Creek. With the low water levels and the early time of the year, you may not need to cast as far.
