Anyone ice fish for Catfish?
#2
I know they get caught though the ice in the winter, they dont stop eating.

Last year on a lake next to mine a guy pulled in a 15 pound 30 inch blue channel cat though the ice.

he was using a shad sized minnow on a tipup.

as for me, I have yet to catch one though the ice. I do like a cat fish fry, and can only emagine how great a cat fish would taist if caugth in the fridged winter waters.

for some reason fish always taist better if it comes though a hole in the ice. [:p]

I wish I could give you tips on the type of lake structures and what nots to fish, I have fished just about every type of stucture you can find in the lakes in my area all the way down past 100 feet.

the problem is my area is not known for its cats. at least not sicne I was a kid. makes me wonder if they were all fished out at one point or if the carp messed the eco system so bad that the cats cant compete. When I was a kid where I once used to catch cats I now catch carp... co-inky-dink I dont realy know for sure but I have my suspictioins...

and oddly enough, I have never caught a carp though the ice either..
