JapanRon: Yeh, OK, I got it for shallow rock fish up north and lead line. I'll bet you could splice 20 feet of lead line onto your flyline and reach those critters easily. I have about 15 feet spliced onto my surf fly outfit, but I certainly need that 12 weight rod. Sounds like fun though. That lead line on the fly rod will strip back through the guides but won't easily go onto the reel. Yes, when you freespool the leadcore the instant the previous color reaches the water you can say that's the total distance at 30 yards a color, or ten yards as we old coaches' say. In conclusion diving once off of San Miguel Island in 40 to 100 feet for lobster I personally saw no less than a hundred ling cod resting on a rock shoal bottom about 20 by 30 yards wide. I swear some of them were as big as me. It was awesome
