Most of the larger stripers in the area are found on Mojave as opposed to Mead. But Mead has its monsters too. The majority of truly big fish come on large trout imitators fished near the trout stocking sites. AC Plugs, LA Sliders, Huddleston’s, Castaic Baits and the like are good choices. Trout stocking on Mead should begin in the next few weeks. The schedule is printed in the sports page on Thursdays. Of course to throw these you need the big heavy tackle, but you knew that. That’s the only way I know of that guys target large fish on Mead with any consistency.
To your earlier question about netting shad, don’t have much experience in that personally so cant offer a lot…but I have heard recent reports that the shad are shallow in the backs of coves in the Vegas Wash/33 Hole area, being pursed by mostly smallish stripers with a handful of LMB in the mix as well. Bay Sport seems to be the expert on netting shad, he may check in with some tips. Good luck!
