Good point on the cracking hose, it is worth a try...make sure it is close to the house water faucet and not the irrigation water if you town has that, and also about the cracking hose, I purchased a very nice not too expensive hose that was made from recycled tires that won't crack in the cold and also doesn't have the coil problems.

I would also check fire alarm batteries-time change is always a good time for this. and have an escape plan including gathering absolute necessities in a hurry.
