fishing 11/6-11/11

You might have a difficult time finding stripers on the fly, unless you have the gear to get down deep. As far as I know, the surface action has faded into the fall, and people are catching stripers with jigs, cut bait (like frozen shad and sardines) and live shad down to 120 feet or more. You might have more success fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass on the fly. This time of year, the bass fishing can be phenomenal if you can find them, as the bass are fattening themselves up for the winter. Look for structure like big chunk rock and boulders in 15 to 35 foot deep water, and throw threadfin shad imitators, crawdad imitators, or big leech style streamers. A black or purple streamer can rack up good numbers at times. The fish are mainly feeding on roaming schools of shad, so be on the move if you aren't finding fish. Stay active, and you should do well. Good luck, I'd like to see a report after your trip!
