I have never been one to overline a rod. Not saying I haven't done it in a pinch and I do realize allot of the rods out there are two sizes.
But generally on an upper end rod, what it is posted as is what I fish on it. If a rod is fast, I know people overline to slow it down...I have the means to if it is fast that is what I want and if I want a slower rod, I buy one. But, I know most can't do that.
There are so many GOOD lines out there, I think it is just finding the right line.
I also know that by overline can help you shoot better, specially in wind, but again to me it is the same size, and different choice of manufacturer.
So, my take...NO, but it is not a sin and does have it's points.
